What Does IP67 Mean for Starlink Mini?
Starlink Mini is designed for outdoor use, but an IP rating is not permission to ignore connectors, cable choice, drainage, mounting, or severe weather. This guide explains what the published rating covers, what it does not promise, and how to reduce avoidable weather-related problems.
The short answer
Starlink鈥檚 current Mini specification lists an environmental rating of IP67 Type 4 with the DC power cable and Starlink plug/cable installed. That wording matters. The published rating applies to the specified assembled condition; it should not be treated as a blanket rating for every third-party cable, open port, adapter, battery, or accessory attached to the system.

First digit
The first digit describes protection associated with access to hazardous parts and ingress of solid foreign objects. A higher number represents a more demanding classification.
Second digit
The second digit describes protection against water under a defined test. It does not make every connected component or real-world installation equally protected.
The governing enclosure standard is IEC 60529. A rating is a test classification, not a promise that equipment cannot be damaged in every storm, installation, impact, or long-term exposure scenario.
Why the cable condition matters
The Mini specification ties the rating to installed cables and plugs. An open connector, partially seated plug, damaged seal, incompatible cable, or ordinary RJ45 lead may change the protection of the completed setup. Starlink鈥檚 support material specifically directs users to the Mini Starlink Ethernet Cable when maintaining the dish鈥檚 waterproof IP rating is required.

A safer outdoor setup checklist
- Use the specified connection condition. Check that required cables and plugs are fully installed and undamaged.
- Keep power accessories protected. A battery, adapter, extension, or USB-C charger may have a different environmental rating from the Mini.
- Choose drainage and stability. Place the terminal where it will not sit in pooled water, slide, tip, or become a trip hazard.
